Hook generator and Hook X-Ray Will the first line of your video hold?
Type the opening line of your Reels, TikTok or Shorts video. The tool scores it out of 100 on 8 rules, marks which words work and suggests fixes. Run two hooks side by side, or generate new hooks for your topic.
Runs entirely in your browser. What you type is not sent anywhere and is not stored.
How to use it
How to use the hook generator
It takes two minutes before you film; the first line is the one thing you can't change once the video is live.
- 01
Type your hook
Enter the line you'll say or show in the first 3 seconds. Add the on-screen text in its own field.
- 02
Read the score and marks
Words that work, like questions, numbers and "you", are colour-marked; list openings and hype are struck through.
- 03
Run two hooks head to head
In A/B mode, write two openings side by side and see which leads and by how much. Film both and compare the results.
- 04
Generate new hooks if needed
On the Generate tab, enter your topic, who you're talking to and a number. Templates come back already scored; pick one and rewrite it in your own voice.
Method
How the hook score is calculated
The score comes from 8 rules, 100 points in total: question 20, number 15, not a list 15, length 15, talking to "you" 10, no filler 10, curiosity gap 10, no hype 5. 85 and above means film it, 65–84 means fix one thing, below that means rewrite.
Three of the rules come from the Instagram data of brands I work with (used with permission). For the same product, a "5 benefits" list opening got 80 views and an opening that asked for a number got 1,392 (Nutrivera Instagram Insights). Pratik10's four most-viewed posts all open with a question (October 2026). The other rules are established short-form writing principles.
The tool is rule-based and calls no AI, so the same line always gets the same score. A high score is not a view guarantee: visuals, sound, topic and account history matter too. Use the score to cut weak openings before you film.

FAQ
Your questions, answered.
What is a hook in a video?
The hook is the opening line said or shown in the first 1–3 seconds of a short video. Whether a viewer stops scrolling and keeps watching depends heavily on it.
How is the hook score calculated?
On 8 rules: asks a question, contains a number, doesn't open like a list, is short, talks to the viewer directly, has no filler, leaves the answer to the video and avoids hype. Each rule's points and source show inside the tool.
Why do list openings score low?
In one client brand's data, a "5 benefits" list opening stopped at 80 views while a number-question opening on the same topic got 1,392. A list promises the whole content up front and leaves no curiosity gap.
Does a high score guarantee views?
No. The score only rates the first line. Views also depend on visuals, sound, topic, posting time and account history. The tool is for cutting weak openings before you film.
Does the hook generator use AI?
No. It uses templates built on the measured rules and scores every suggestion with the same engine. Rewrite suggestions in your own voice rather than using them as they are.
Are my hooks stored?
No. Scoring runs in your browser; the lines you type are not sent anywhere.
